In profound sorrow, the Britt Funeral Home and Cremation Service join with the Greene, Dickerson, Sutton and Richardson families to announce Mother Mary (Sutton) Kent Richardson, age 83, of Goldsboro, North Carolina has completed her earthly journey.
She was lovingly known by her family members and friends as “Mother and Cousin”.
Mother Richardson transitioned from labor to reward, August 16, 2024 at Wayne UNC Health Care Center of Goldsboro in Goldsboro, North Carolina.
Mary was born in Wayne County, North Carolina, December 5, 1940, to the late Mr. Anderson Sutton and Mrs. Bertha Dickerson-Sutton.
Mary received some of her education in the Wayne County Public School System. She graduated from Richard B. Harrison High School in Selma, North Carolina in the Class of 1959.
After graduation, she relocated to Washington, DC.
During her employment years, she served as a Supervisor for Strauss Photo Technical Service. After retiring with 30 years of service, she relocated back to Goldsboro, North Carolina.
During her “Down Time” in life, she enjoyed solving cross-word puzzles or “Word-Finds”.
Mrs. Richardson was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. Anderson Sutton and Mrs. Bertha Dickerson-Sutton; her husband, Mr. Rudolph Richardson; her sisters, Mrs. Alice Bryant and Ms. Christine Sutton; her brothers, Mr. Billy Ray Sutton and Mr. Anderson Sutton Jr. and her sister-in-law, Mrs. Bernice Sutton.
A public visitation/wake will be held Friday, August 23, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Little Rock Church of Christ, 1307 NC 581 Highway-North, Pikeville, North Carolina 27863.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, August 24, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. in the Little Rock Church of Christ, 1307 NC 581 Highway-North, Pikeville, North Carolina 27863. Pastor Antonio T. Forsythe will officiate.
Interment will follow the Celebration of Life Service in the Fremont Memorial Cemetery, 179 Winding Branch Avenue, Fremont, North Carolina 27830.
Mother Mary leaves to cherish her loving and precious memories to her children, Olinda (Robert) Harris of Temple Hills, Maryland, Vernon Sutton of the home and Pastor Melody (Bishop Michael) Gilcreast of Apopka Florida; her grandchildren, Travonya Sutton of Temple Hills, Maryland, Dewain Sutton of Dunkirk, Maryland and Antonia Martin of Temple Hills, Maryland; her bonus grandchildren, Michael Jones of Cleveland, Ohio, Michael Anthony Gilcreast, II, of Leesburg, Virginia; her six great- grandchildren; her one bonus great-grandchild; one special goddaughter, Twana Mount; her three sisters, Wanda (Carrell) Forsythe of La Grange, North Carolina, Angeline (Mack) Wilder of Washington, DC and Joyal (Jerome) Newkirk of Goldsboro, North Carolina; her seven step-children, Ann (Issac) Coles of Kenbridge, Virginia, Brenda (Mike) Reid of South Jordan, Utah, Joyce (Samuel) Richardson Best of Wilson, North Carolina, Rudolph (Cynthia) Richardson Jr., of Wilson, North Carolina, Linda (Charles) Artis of Selma, North Carolina, Tony Richardson of Kenly, North Carolina and Debbie (Jack) Bunn of Wilson, North Carolina; her sister-in-law, Edna Durham of Fayetteville, North Carolina; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Saturday, August 24, 2024, the family members and friends will assemble at the residence of Mrs. Mary Richardson, 3229 Central Heights Road, Lot 3, Goldsboro, North Carolina at 9:15 a.m. in preparation for the funeral procession to Little Rock Church of Christ, Pikeville, North Carolina.
Floral arrangements may be delivered to Britt Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 414 East Washington Street, La Grange, North Carolina beginning Friday morning, August 23, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
