Mrs. Jackie Doris (Cobb) Cotton

In profound sorrow, the Britt Funeral Home and Cremation Service join with the Cotton Family to announce that Mrs. Jackie Cobb Cotton of La Grange, North Carolina, at age 81, has completed her earthly journey. 

She was lovingly known by her children as “Mu”. 

“Mu” transitioned from labor to reward on Wednesday, June 10, 2020 at the Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro, North Carolina.  

Jackie was born in New York County, New York on June 30, 1938 to the late Mrs. Lottie Cobb Davis.

She received her education in the Lenoir County Public School System.

Mrs. Cotton relocated to La Grange, North Carolina.  During her working years, she joined the Caswell Developmental Center in Kinston, North Carolina.  She served as a Housekeeper until she retired after 20 years of service. 

Faithfully, she attended Jones’ Tabernacle Free Will Baptist Church until her health no longer allowed her to attend. 

Mother Cotton was preceded in death by her mother, Mrs. Lottie Cobb Davis; her daughter, Ms. Jacqueline Cotton; her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Diane Jones Cotton and her son, Christopher "Chris" T. Cotton. 

A public viewing will be conducted on Saturday, June 13, 2020 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Britt Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, 414 East Washington Street, La Grange, North Carolina 28551. 

A celebration of life service will be held on Sunday, June 14, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. in the Jones’ Tabernacle Free Will Baptist Church, 3550 Poole Road, Kinston, North Carolina 28504.  Bishop William E. Jones will officiate.

Interment will follow the celebration of life service on Sunday, June 14, 2020, in the Fairview Memorial Park Cemetery, 295 West James Street, La Grange, North Carolina 28551.

Mother Cotton leaves to cherish her loving and precious memories to her loving sons, Eugene Cotton, Jr. and wife, Sherry of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Linwood Cotton and wife, (Diane-deceased) of Snow Hill, North Carolina, Eric Cotton and wife, Mellissa, of Greensboro, North Carolina; her daughters, Cynthia D. Reveley of Richmond, Virginia and Angela D. Cotton of the home; her grandchildren, Jemeliah Lindsay, Tiffany Mason, Shara Cotton, Alyssa Cotton, Aliya Cotton, Jasmine Cotton, Kientae Burns, KeShawn Burns, Keyon Burns; her great grandchildren, Joshua Lindsay, Jada Lindsay, Naomi Mason, Isaiah Cotton; her sisters-in-law, Sadie Isler and husband, Cliff, of Kinston, North Carolina and Peggy Terry of Snow Hill, North Carolina; her brother-in-law, Bobby Cotton of Boston, Massachusetts; her special cousins, Sally Jones of La Grange, North Carolina and Vanessa Fryar of Kinston, North Carolina; her special friends, Rosa Lee Taylor, Pat Cox both of La Grange, North Carolina, and Adele and Ezeikel Peebles both of Washington, DC; her nieces; her great niece; her nephew; and a host of  other relatives and friends.

The family members will assemble at the resident of Ms. Angela Cotton, 511 West Queen Street, La Grange, North Carolina at 11:15 a.m. in preparation for the funeral procession.
