In profound sorrow, the Britt Funeral Home and Cremation Service join with the Langston, Sutton and Southerland families to announce Mrs. Carolyn Joyce (Sutton) Southerland of La Grange, North Carolina, age 63, has completed her earthly journey. 

Mrs. Southerland transitioned from labor to reward Thursday, September 30, 2021 at UNC Lenoir Health Care in Kinston, North Carolina.  She was lovingly known by her family members and friends as “MaMa Joyce” and “Ms. C”. 

Carolyn was born in Lenoir County, North Carolina December 4, 1957 to the late Mr. Earl Sutton and Mrs. Virginia Langston-Sutton.

Her family moved to Jones County, North Carolina.  She received her education in the Jones County Public School System in Trenton, North Carolina.

During Mrs. Southerland’s working years, she worked as a Health Care Technician for Cherry Hospital in Goldsboro, North Carolina for over thirteen years.

Mrs. Carolyn loved her cooking!  Also, “MaMa” was the family’s backbone.  She enjoyed family outings, family cookouts, seeing and being around her children, grandchildren, family members and friends.

Mrs. Southerland was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. Earl Sutton and Mrs. Virginia Langston-Sutton; her brothers, Mr. Leonard Sutton and Mr. Alexander Sutton.

A public visitation will be held Tuesday, October 5, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. to 10:50 a.m. in the Britt Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, 414 East Washington Street, La Grange, North Carolina 28551. 

Also, a Celebration of Life Service will be held Tuesday, October 5, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. in the Britt Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, 414 East Washington Street, La Grange, North Carolina 28551.  

Interment will follow the Celebration of Life Service in the Sutton Family Memorial Park Cemetery, 2731 Hwy 903 South, La Grange, North Carolina 28551.

Sister Carolyn leaves to cherish her sweet and loving memories to her daughter, Mrs. Pamela Stevenson Williams and husband, Mr. Garry of La Grange, North Carolina; her son, Mr. Kelvin Southerland of La Grange, North Carolina; her brothers, Mr. L. H. Sutton, Mr. Keith Sutton and wife, Mrs. Maria, Mr. Fred Sutton all of La Grange, North Carolina and Mr. Jimmy Sutton and wife, Gloria, of Snow Hill, North Carolina; her sister, Mrs. Rose Marie Sutton-Parks of La Grange, North Carolina; her grandchildren, De’James Stevenson, De’Anthony Morgan, Nigeria Cannon, all of La Grange, North Carolina, Kamora Southerland and Saige Southerland both of New Bern, North Carolina; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends.

Tuesday, October 5, 2021, the family members and friends will assemble at Britt Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 414 East Washington Street, La Grange, North Carolina at 10:15 a.m. in preparation for the family lineup and the Celebration of Life Service.
