Mrs. Brenda LaShawn Miller Watkins

Mrs. Brenda LaShawn Miller Watkins, age 60, of 160 Cuyler Best Road, Goldsboro, North Carolina passed away on Friday, May 19, 2017 at Wayne UNC Health Care in Goldsboro, North Carolina.

Brenda was born in Towson County, Maryland, on April 22, 1957 to the late Mr. Ira Crockett and Mrs. Juanita Rowe Miller Jones. 

After graduating from high school, Brenda continued her education at Fayetteville State University and earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration.

While at Fayetteville State University with a high grade point average, Brenda pledged Delta and became a member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.

During Mrs. Watkins’ working career with the federal government, she worked as a Purchasing Director for the United States Navy Department. Mrs. Watkins retired with approximately 25 years of service.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Juanita Rowe Miller Jones; her father, Ira Crockett; and her two sisters, Johnnie Mae Swinson and Linda Faye Jones.

Funeral service will be conducted on Friday, May 26, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at the Thompson Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, 2395 North Beston Road, La Grange, NC.  Pastor William Waters, Jr. will officiate.

Interment will follow in the Old Mill Cemetery, 433 Central Heights Road, Goldsboro, NC.

Also, a public viewing will be held on Thursday, May 25, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Britt Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, 414 East Washington Street, La Grange, NC.

 Mrs. Watkins leaves to cherish her loving and precious memories to her daughter, Kendra LaShawn Watkins of Goldsboro, NC; her granddaughter, Kayden LaShawn Watkins of Goldsboro, NC; her three brothers, Edward Earl Miller and wife, Doreen, of Fort Washington, Maryland, Lee Arthur Jones and wife, Velma, of Parkstown, NC and Arthur Lee Jones of Goldsboro, NC; her sister, Glenda Kaye Jones of La Grange, NC; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.  

On Friday, May 26, 2017, the family members and friends will assemble at the former residence of Mrs. Juanita Rowe Miller Jones, 1365-B Parkstown Road, La Grange, NC, at 9:50 a.m., in preparation for the funeral procession.  

Flowers may be sent to Britt Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 414 East Washington Street, La Grange, NC, beginning on Thursday, May 25, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
