In profound sorrow, the Britt Funeral Home and Cremation Service join with the White, Holloway, Hobbs, Smith, Coore and Adams families to announce Mr. Winston Churchill Alexander Adams, age 81, of La Grange, North Carolina has completed his earthly journey.
He was lovingly known by his family members and friends as “Slick Gent”.
Mr. Adams transitioned from labor to reward, May 10, 2024 in the Durham VA Health Care System in Durham, North Carolina.
Winston was born in Wayne County, North Carolina, May 5, 1943, to the late Mr. Lemiah Adams and Mrs. Julia Coore-Adams.
Winston received his education in Wayne County Public School System.
He attended Central High School and graduated in the Class of 1961.
During Mr. Adams employment years, he moved to New York and became gainfully employed.
Having a desire to continue his education, Winston applied to and was accepted at A&T State University, in Greensboro, North Carolina, with a major in Agricultural Education.
While enrolled at A&T State University, he was drafted into the United States Army.
Mr. Adams served his country in the United State Army. He served from 1965-1967 and received an Honorable Discharge.
Brother Winston was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Lemiah Adams and Mrs. Julia Coore-Adams; his nephew, Mr. Thomas McDonald, III; his siblings, Mrs. Amelia Adams Jones, Mr. Robert Adams, Mr. Joseph Adams, Mrs. Willie Adams Loftin, Dr. Annie Adams McDonald and Mr. Billy Adams, Sr.
A public visitation will be held Friday, May 24, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. to 9:50 a.m. in Britt Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, 414 East Washington Street, La Grange, North Carolina 28551.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Friday, May 24, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. in Britt Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, 414 East Washington Street, La Grange, North Carolina 28551. Bishop William Earl Jones will officiate.
Interment will follow the Celebration of Life Service in the Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, 164 Longs Plant Farm Road, Goldsboro, North Carolina 27534.
Brother Winston leaves to cherish his loving and precious memories to his siblings, Mr. Marvin Adams and wife, Phyllis, of Atlanta Georgia, Mrs. Jewel Adams Braswell of the home and Mrs. Pamela Adams Hudson and husband, Herbert of Cypress, Texas; a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Friday, May 24, 2024, the family members and friends will assemble at the Britt Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, 414 East Washington Street, La Grange, North Carolina 28551 at 8:40 a.m. in preparation for the line-up and the Celebration of Life Service.
