Mr. Ulis Norman Dawson

Mr. Ulis Norman Dawson, age 89, of 602 Longleaf Avenue, Goldsboro, NC, departed his earthly life on Friday, February 24, 2017, at his residence.

Ulis was born in Lenoir County, North Carolina on April 26, 1927.  

 

He was born to the late Mr. Rommy Dawson and Mrs. Etta Green Dawson.

Ulis attended the Lenoir County Public School System.

 

In 1947, he was joined in matrimony to Ethel Mae Hines, also, of La Grange, NC and of this union 9 children were born.

 

Mr. Dawson served his country by enlisting into the United States Army.  His tour of duty included Berlin, Germany in 1945.   He fought in World War II and Mr. Dawson was honorably discharged from the Army in 1947.

He attended Shaw University and he begins his career at O’Berry Vocational Center in Goldsboro, North Carolina where he retired as Recreational Therapist and Administrator.  Mr. Dawson was a devoted teacher, leader and Christian at Saint Luke Free Will Baptist Church in La Grange, NC.

 

He served on the Board of Trustees at Fayetteville State University, Fayetteville, NC; Founder of the G Wesley Allen M.D. Scholarship Foundation, Inc.  A member of several Masonic Houses, Master-Masson 33rd Degree and Past Grand Master of Prince Hall Grand Lodge Free and Accepted Masons, North Carolina Jurisdiction.

 

He was an accomplished author, publishing two books published by Vantage Press, Inc., New York, NY; The Autobiography of Ulis N. Dawson “THE FUTURE IS NOW” and “THE QUEST FOR TRUTH.”

Funeral service will be conducted on Friday, March 3, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. in the Saint Luke FWB Church, 306 West King Street, La Grange, NC.  Bishop Joe N. Dixon will officiate.

Interment will follow in the Fairview Memorial Cemetery, 395 West James Street, La Grange, NC.

Also, a public viewing will be held on Thursday, March 2, 2017, in the Saint Luke FWB Church, 306 West King Street, La Grange, NC from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Brother Dawson leaves a legacy of love and memories to his wife of the home, Mrs. Ethel Hines Dawson; his five daughters, Teresa Butler and husband, Ivey of Henderson, NC, Delphia Hucks of Goldsboro, NC,  Alease Dawson of Goldsboro, NC, Jean Ethel Dawson of Charlotte, NC, and Collisa Dawson of Cary, NC;  his four sons, Norman Knabe of Germany, Norman Ellsworth Joyner and wife, Pat of Atlanta, GA, Larry Dawson of Goldsboro, NC, Apostle Frank Dawson and wife, Lynette of Goldsboro, NC;  one sister, Helen Jones and husband, Richard of Orlando. FL; 11 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  

On Friday, March 3, 2017, the family members and friends will assemble at the residence of Mrs. Ethel Dawson, 602 Longleaf Avenue, Goldsboro, NC at 9:30 a.m. in preparation for the funeral procession.

 

Flowers may be sent to Britt Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 414 East Washington Street, La Grange, NC beginning on Thursday, March 2, 2017 at 9:30 a.m.
