In profound sorrow, the Britt Funeral Home and Cremation Service join with the Edmondson, Whitley and Coley families to announce Mr. Matthew Coley of Fremont, North Carolina, age 70, has completed his earthly journey. Mr. Coley transitioned from labor to reward Monday, March 13, 2023 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro, North Carolina. He was lovingly known by his family members and friends as “Matt”.
Matthew was born in Wilson County, North Carolina, March 28, 1952, to the late Mr. Matthew “Bud” Coley and the living Mrs. Vivian Edmondson-Coley.
He received some of his education in the Wayne County Public School System.
Mr. Matthew graduated and earned his high school diploma from the Alternative School in Wayne County, North Carolina.
During Mr. Matt’s working years, he worked as a Master Carpenter for many years until his health declined.
“Matt” is preceded in death by his father, Mr. Matthew “Bud” Coley; his maternal grandparents, Mr. Albert Edmondson and Mrs. Eva Edmondson; his paternal grandparents, Mr. Mack D. Whitley and Mrs. Fannie Barnes.
A public visitation will be held Saturday, March 18, 2023 from 12:00 p.m. to 12:50 p.m. in the Greater Morning Star Church, 705 South Sycamore Street, Fremont, North Carolina 27830.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, March 18, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. in the Greater Morning Star Church, 705 South Sycamore Street, Fremont, North Carolina 27830. Evangelist Mac-Arthur Edmundson will officiate.
Interment will follow the Celebration of Life Service in Turner Swamp Church Cemetery, 549 State Road 1520, Eureka, North Carolina.
Mr. Matt leaves a legacy of love and precious memory to his mother, Mrs. Vivian T. Edmondson-Coley of the home; his children, Ms. Lanilla Coley of Snow Hill, North Carolina and Ms. Quadasia Coley-Jones of Irvington, New Jersey; his grandchildren, Ja’lem, Jabari and Tanilla Jones all of Snow Hill, North Carolina; his great-grandchild, Kyloh Jones; his siblings, Mrs. Vickki Coley-Beltran of Fayetteville, Georgia, Mrs. Angela Coley-Newsome and husband, Mr. Larry and Mrs. Linda Coley-Smith of Fremont, North Carolina, Mr. Anthony J. Coley of College Park, Georgia, Mr. Rodney E. Coley and wife, Regina of Pikeville, North Carolina, and Mrs. La-Rephia Coley-Jackson and husband, Mr. Elba of Alexandria, Virginia; a host of nieces, great nieces, nephews, great nephews, cousins other relatives and friends.
Saturday, March 18, 2023, the family members and friends will assemble at the Coley’s residence, 2042 Memorial Church Road, Fremont, North Carolina at 11:45 a.m. in preparation for the funeral procession to the church.
