The family members and friends will be observing the COVID-19 Health Rules (Face Masks “over Mouth and Nose” and Social Distancing will be required)

“I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.  My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.  He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber.   Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.”  (Psalm 121:1-4)

In profound sorrow, the Britt Funeral Home and Cremation Service join with the Summers, Chaplin, and Britt families to announce Mr. Jimmy LaMont Britt, Sr. formerly of La Grange, North Carolina, age 69, has completed his earthly journey.

Surrounded by his loving and caring family members, Mr. Britt transitioned from labor to reward, Monday, July 24, 2023, at his residence in Morrisville, North Carolina.

Jimmy was born in Wayne County, North Carolina, July 4, 1954, to the late Mr. Harry Lee Britt, Sr. and Mrs. Mazzie Dickerson-Britt.

He received his education in the Wayne County Public School System and graduated from Eastern Wayne High School in the Class of 1972. During those times, he played football and was well known as an awesome dancer and kept his fellow classmates entertained.

During Jimmy’s younger years, he joined his family’s church, Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist of Goldsboro, North Carolina.

Jimmy was always a hard-worker and held various positions at companies such as Moses H. Cone Hospital, JP Stevens, Kemp Furniture, Borden Manufacturing, Donnie Butts Masonry, Lindbergh Summers Masonry, Jonah Ham Masonry to finally his own company, B & M Masonry, until he successfully retired. He took great pride in his work and on drives would often point out the many buildings that he constructed throughout the years. His family would often tease that he must have built every structure from North Carolina to Florida.  Jimmy provided many work opportunities for young people searching for employment. He was a gentle, kind, and giving soul and did anything he could to help others. In his spare time, he loved to grill out, play card games, attend his sons, Jimmy and Steven’s, sporting events, spend time with his dogs, Herman and Buster, and was always a #1 Dallas Cowboys fan.

Jimmy was married to and divorced from Mrs. Aletha Summers Britt. From this union three children were born and he was affectionately known as “Jim Bob” by his daughter, Lisa.

As Jimmy’s health declined and even after the divorce, Ms. Aletha took care of him as if they were still married and not many people would have done it and that had to be LOVE.

"A tribute to: Ms. Aletha Summers-Britt and her Family"

"A tribute from: Mr. Harry, Mrs. Mazzie Britt and their family"

Our parents, Harry and Mazzie, loved Aletha and the ground she walked on.  Aletha is truly a very special lady.

At no point in life was Ms. Aletha considered to be an in-law by the Britt family.  To us, she was a daughter, a sister, a wife, a mother, a grandmother, and a friend to all of us.  With her kind and pure heart of love, she made this world a better place to live.

The doctors made a suggestion to the family to have Jimmy placed in an outside care facility.  As Jimmy’s caregiver and friend, Ms. Aletha and family decided not to place Jimmy in a nursing home or a hospice center for his outside care.  His family provided care for him in their own home.  We salute Ms. Aletha, her children and grandchildren for their LOVE in action.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Harry Lee Britt, Sr. and Mrs. Mazzie Dickerson-Britt; his sister, Ms. Delores Britt; his brothers, Mr. Melvin Britt and Mr. Harry Lee Britt, Jr.; his loving in-laws, parents, Mrs. Aletha Summers and Mr. Harvey Summers, Sr.; brothers, Mr. Lindbergh Summers, Mr. Johnny Lee Summers, Mr. Earl Summers, Mr. Henry Summers and Mr. Harvey Summers, Jr.; sisters, Mrs. Annie Dawson, Ms. Claudia Summers, Mrs. Edna Graham and Ms. Irene Summers.
