In profound sorrow, Britt Funeral Home and Cremation Service join with the Faison, Wheeler, Williams, Stephenson, Robinson and Flowers families to announce Mr. James Robert Flowers, Sr., age 87, of Hillsborough, North Carolina has completed his earthly journey.
He was lovingly known by his family members and friends as “Snook”.
Mr. Flowers transitioned from labor to reward, November 1, 2024 at UNC Chapel Hill Hospital in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
James was born in Lenoir County, North Carolina, March 28, 1937, to the late Mr. Tony Flowers and Mrs. Glenora Faison Flowers.
James received his education in Lenoir County Public School System in Kinston, North Carolina.
After graduating from high school, Mr. Flowers served his country by enlisting in the United States Navy. After four (4) years of service, Mr. Flowers was separated from the United States Navy February 27, 1960 and received an Honorable Discharge.
After his military service, Mr. Flowers furthered his education by attending and graduating from college.
During Mr. Flowers’ employment years, he served as a Professor at Durham College.
Later in life Mr. Flowers owned and operated his advertising specialty company business, “JUBCO” for over 50 years.
During his down time, Mr. Flowers enjoyed working in his garden. Also, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and interacting with his family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Tony Flowers and his mother, Glenoria Faison Flowers.
A public visitation will be held Saturday, November 9, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. to 10:50 a.m. in Britt Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, 414 East Washington Street, La Grange, North Carolina 28551.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, November 9, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. in Britt Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, 414 East Washington Street, La Grange, North Carolina 28551. Reverend Dr. Harold O. Warren will officiate.
Interment or Burial will be held Tuesday, November 12, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. at Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, 164 Longs Plant Farm Road, Goldsboro, North Carolina 27534.
Mr. Flowers leaves to cherish his loving and precious memories to his wife, Mrs. Matthew Flowers, of 45 years; his children, Janet Flowers of California, James Flowers, Jr. of California, Devernay Flowers of California, Veronica Flowers of California, Winston Williams, Jr. (Gina) of Hillsborough, North Carolina, Talley Williams (Michael) of Burlington, North Carolina, Maxine Robinson (James) of Roxboro, North Carolina and Maxwell Williams (Joann) of Okinawa, Japan; his grandchildren, Phillip Jackson, Shane Stephenson, Bryce Stephenson, Sabrina Stephenson, Armoni Robertson, Janyyah Robinson, Jamirra Robinson, Jabarri Robinson, Madison Cash, Mariah Cash, and Makenzie Cash; his great-grandchildren, Zayne Stephenson, Zoey Stephenson, Michael Brown, Jr., Mahaila Brown, Isley Stephenson; a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Saturday, November 9, 2024, the family members and friends will assemble at the Britt Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, 414 East Washington Street, La Grange, North Carolina 28551 at 10:15 a.m. in preparation for the line-up and the Celebration of Life Service.
