In profound sorrow, the Britt Funeral Home and Cremation Service join with the Batts Family to announce that Mr. George Linwood Batts of Kinston, North Carolina, at age 63, has completed his earthly journey.
He was lovingly known by his family members and friends as “Don”.
“Don” transitioned from labor to reward on Monday, May 11, 2020 in the UNC Lenoir Health Care Center in Kinston, North Carolina.
George was born in Greene County, North Carolina on September 15, 1956 to the late Mr. Samuel Batts and Mrs. Mildred Hill Batts.
He received his education in the Greene County Public School System in Snow Hill, North Carolina.
After graduating from high school, Mr. Batts served his country by enlisting into the United States Army. He retired honorably from the United States Army as an PV2 with five years of service.
Later in life, Mr. Batts met, dated and married the former Ms. Mary Harris. To that union two children were born, Marcus Batts and Mikal Batts.
During Mr. Batts’ working years, he join the Du Pont Manufacturing Company in Kinston, North Carolina. He served as a Machine Operator and retired after 14 years of service.
Mr. Batts was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Samuel Batts and Mrs. Mildred Hill Batts; his four brothers, Mr. Willie F. Forrest, Mr. Hilton L. Forrest, Mr. Jimmie R. Forrest and Mr. Samuel Batts, Jr.; and his two sisters, Mrs. Hattie P. Forrest and Mrs. Ida Mae Best.
A public viewing will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2020 from 11:00 a.m. to 11:50 a.m. in the Britt Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, 414 East Washington Street, La Grange, North Carolina 28551.
A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2020, at 12:00 p.m. in the Britt Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, 414 East Washington Street, La Grange, North Carolina 28551. Minister Gloria Wade will officiate.
Immediately following the celebration of life service, a second (2nd) viewing will be held for Mr. George Batts in the Britt Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, 414 East Washington Street, La Grange, North Carolina 28551.
Interment will follow the celebration of life service on Saturday, May 16, 2020, in the Fairview Memorial Park Cemetery, 295 West James Street, La Grange, North Carolina 28551.
Brother Batts leaves to cherish his loving and precious memories to his loving wife, Mrs. Mary Harris Batts of the home; his sons, Mr. Marcus Batts of Winterville, North Carolina and Mr. Mikal Batts of Kinston, North Carolina; his grandsons, Mr. Kameron Jace Batts of Kinston, North Carolina and Mr. Tristan D’Marcus Batts of Winterville, North Carolina; his bothers, Mr. Manford Batts of Snow Hill, North Carolina, Mr. Ernest Batts of La Grange, North Carolina and Mr. Isaac Forrest of Irvington, New Jersey; his sisters, Mrs. Carolyn Barrett and husband, Ernest of Goldsboro, North Carolina, Mrs. Carrie Wootson of La Grange, North Carolina, Mrs. Velma Harris and husband, Charles of La Grange, North Carolina and Mrs. Elnora Ellis of La Grange, North Carolina; his sisters in law, Mrs. Darlene Brown and husband, Ray of Kinston, North Carolina and Mrs. Betty C. Harris of Kinston, North Carolina; his brother in law, Mr. Willie Harris of Kinston, North Carolina; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
On Saturday, May 16, 2020, the family members and friends will assemble at the residence of Mrs. Mary Batts, 1468 Lyle Road, Kinston, North Carolina at 10:45 a.m. in preparation for the funeral procession.
