The Dupree Family Members and friends take this opportunity to thank the Johnston County and Wilson County Sheriff Departments, the staff and management at the Emergency Medical Services and all of their friends and acquaintances who helped in the search and the recovery of their beloved Dr. Willie Jasper Dupree, Jr.  May God bless each of you, abundantly.  A special “Thank You” to Sheriff Steve Bizzell for his help and concern!

In profound sorrow, the Britt Funeral Home and Cremation Service join with the Deans, Staggers and Dupree families to announce Dr. Willie Jasper Dupree, Jr. of Kenly, North Carolina, age 72, has completed his earthly journey.  Dr. Dupree transitioned from labor to reward Tuesday, December 13, 2022 in Kenly, North Carolina.  He was lovingly known by his family members and friends as “Insurance” and “Pee Wee”. 

Willie was born in Greene County, North Carolina, April 15, 1950, to the late Mr. Willie Jasper Dupree, Sr. and the late Mrs. Dorothy Deans-Dupree.

He received some of his education in the Wilson County Public School System. 

Willie graduated from Richard B. Harrison High School in Selma, North Carolina , in the Class of 1968.

After graduating from high school, Willie served his country by enlisting into the United States Air Force.

Later in life, Dupree met and married the love of his life, Ms. Shirley Staggers-Dupree.  To that union, four beautiful children were born.

Dupree accepted Christ as his personal savior.  He united with the Tabernacle of Prayer under the leadership of the late Apostle Johnnie Washington and Pastor Ida Hamilton.

During Mr. Dupree’s working years, he worked as a Master Insurance Salesperson in the insurance business. He won a number of free trips.  He put the town of Micro, North Carolina on the map because he was so skillful in selling insurance.  

Dupree was a good hearted person who loved his family members and friends.  He loved to talk and share positive ideas with them.  He helped people in whatever way he could. Also, he loved playing his instrument, the saxophone. Dr. Dupree played for churches, businesses and performed in many concerts.  He was loved by many and will truly be missed.

Dr. Dupree was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Willie Jasper Dupree, Sr. and the late Mrs. Dorothy Lee Deans-Dupree; his brother, Marvin R. Dupree, and his granddaughter, Ms. Jessica Makayla King.

A Memorial Service will be held Friday, December 16, 2022 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Temple of Praise Church of Deliverance, Inc., 306 East Second Street, Kenly, North Carolina 27542.  The church pastor is Dr. Apostle James E. Neal, Sr.

A public visitation and viewing will be held Saturday, December 17, 2022 from 11:00 a.m. to 11:50 a.m. in the Tabernacle Temple of Jesus Christ, Inc., 1601 Lane Street, Wilson, North Carolina 27893. 

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, December 17, 2022, at 12:00 p.m. in the Tabernacle Temple of Jesus Christ, Inc., 1601 Lane Street, Wilson, North Carolina 27893.   Pastor Curtis E. Grant of Charleston, South Carolina will officiate. 

Interment will be held the following week in the Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, 164 Longs Plant Farm Road, Goldsboro, North Carolina 27534.

Dr. Dupree leaves a legacy of love to his devoted wife, Mrs. Shirley Staggers Dupree of the home; his son, Mr. Willie J. Dupree, III and wife, Mrs. Jennifer; his daughter, Mrs. Zanetta King and husband, Mr. Mike; his son, Mr. Markus Dupree and wife, Mrs. Toni; his son; Mr. Travis Dupree and wife, Mrs. Kimry; his grandchildren,  Rashad, Kiera, Mia, Treasure, Miranda, Princeton, Lauren, Pryce, Victoria, MJ, Mackenzie, Zoe, and Kourtney; his sisters, Mrs. Dora Bell and husband, Mr. Leonard of Texas, Ms. Gloria Denise Dupree of Selma and Mrs. Debra Ann Kafu of Raleigh, North Carolina; his brothers, Mr. Allen Dupree and Mr. Donald Dupree both of Kenly, North Carolina  and a host of very special extraordinary nieces, nephews and his loyal and devoted best friend, Mr. Melvin Granby of Greenville, North Carolina.

Saturday, December 17, 2022, the family members and friends will assemble at the Dupree’s residence, 408 East Second Street, Kenly, North Carolina at 10:15 a.m. in preparation for the funeral procession to the church.
