In profound sorrow, the Britt Funeral Home and Cremation Service join with the Pender and Smith Families to announce that Ms. Maude Lee Pender of Goldsboro, North Carolina, at age 78, has completed her earthly journey. She was lovingly known by her family members and friends as “Maude Lee”
Ms. Pender transitioned from labor to reward on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at the Somerset Court Assisted Living Center in Goldsboro, North Carolina.
She was born in Wayne County, North Carolina on March 24, 1940 to the late Mr. James Pender, Sr. and Mrs. Sarah Pender Smith.
Maude received her education in the Wayne County public school system.
After graduating from Central High School in Goldsboro, North Carolina, Maude moved to Wilmington, North Carolina for an extended period of time.
Later in life, Maude moved back to Goldsboro, North Carolina where she was employed as a Head Chief at Heath Restaurant in Goldsboro, North Carolina.
Ms. Pender was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. James Pender, Sr. and Mrs. Sarah Pender Smith; her stepfather, Mr. Amos Smith, Sr.; her brothers, Mr. James Pender, Jr. (Maude’s twin brother), Mr. Nathan Pender, Mr. Roosevelt Smith, and Mr. Amos Smith, Jr.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 20, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. in the Thompson Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, 2393 North Beston Road, La Grange, North Carolina. Dr. W. C. Hutchins will officiate.
Interment will follow the celebration of life service in the Old Mill Cemetery, 295 Central Heights Road, Goldsboro, North Carolina.
Also, a public viewing will be held on Saturday, October 20, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. to 10:50 a.m. in the Thompson Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, 2393 North Beston Road, La Grange, North Carolina.
Mother Pender leaves to cherish her loving and precious memories to her daughter, Mrs. Katrina Kamara and husband, Abdoulaye of Goldsboro, North Carolina; her brothers, Mr. Rod Chester Smith and wife, Cynthia and Mr. Otto Smith all of Goldsboro, North Carolina; her sisters, Mrs. Ilene Smith and husband, Turner of Raleigh, North Carolina and Ms. Remorial Smith Giles of Goldsboro, North Carolina; her four beloved grandchildren, Takia, Lika, Fatima, and Malick; her aunts, Mrs. Beatrice Battle and Mrs. Nettie Lewis both of Goldsboro, North Carolina; her uncles, Mr. George Worrells, Jr. of La Grange, North Carolina and Freddie Worrells of Dudley, North Carolina; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
On Saturday, October 20, 2018, the family and friends will assemble at the home of Mr. Otto Smith, 128 Country Lane, Goldsboro, North Carolina at 9:30 a.m. in preparation for the funeral possession.
