Mr. Johnny Frank Barnes, Jr.

 In profound sorrow, the Britt Funeral Home and Cremation Service join with the Barnes and Kittrell Families to announce that Mr. Johnny Frank Barnes, Jr. formerly of Jason, North Carolina, age 73, has completed his earthly journey.  He was lovingly known by his family members and friends as “Sonnyboy".

Mr. Barnes transitioned from labor to reward on Tuesday, November 13, 2018, at Straub Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii.  

He was born in Greene County, North Carolina on January 22, 1945 to the late Mrs. Tezzie Mae Atkinson-Barnes and Mr. Johnny Frank Barnes, Sr.

He received his education in the Greene County Public School System. 

During Sonnyboy’s teenage years and with God’s blessings, he taught himself how to play a guitar.  Using the gift God gave him, also, he composed several songs. 

Johnny really had a love for music.

While living in Washington, DC, he played in the band. Johnny even went to the theaters to see famous entertainers perform. When he was not performing in the band and enjoying great entertainment, he would go fishing and spend time with friends.

During Johnny’s working years, he served as a Health Care Technician.  He worked at the Hostel Assistance Living Facility in Honolulu, Hawaii. 

Brother Johnny was preceded in death by his sweet and loving parents, Mrs. Tezzie Mae Atkinson-Barnes and Mr. Johnny Frank Barnes, Sr.; his sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Ann Mitchell and Mrs. Mary Ella Harper.

A celebration of life service will be conducted on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the Rouse Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 4813 Rouse Chapel Road, La Grange, North Carolina 28551.  Apostle B. L. Kittrell will officiate and Prophetess Jean Elizabeth Kittrell will perform the Eulogy.  

Interment will follow the celebration of life service in the La Grange Memorial Park Cemetery, 295 West James Street, La Grange, North Carolina 28551.

Also, a public viewing will be held on Friday, November 23, 2018 from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the Britt Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, 414 East Washington Street, La Grange, North Carolina 28551.

Mr. Barnes leaves to cherish his loving and precious memories to his sister, Prophetess Jean Elizabeth Kittrell and husband, Apostle B. L. Kittrell of La Grange, North Carolina; his brothers, Mr. Earnest Earl Barnes and wife, Dorothy of Elm City, North Carolina, Mr. Charles Ray Barnes and wife, Joyce of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, Mr. Jimmy Dee Barnes and wife, Janet of Kinston, North Carolina, Mr. Thomas Lee Barnes of La Grange, North Carolina and Mr. Frankie Wayne Barnes and wife, Sandra of Greenville, North Carolina;  his aunt, Mrs. Florence  Daisell Speight of Walstonburg North Carolina; a host of nieces, nephews,  cousins, other relatives and friends.

On Saturday, November 24, 2018, the family members and friends will assemble at Britt Funeral Home, 414 East Washington Street, La Grange, North Carolina at 9:45 a.m. in preparation for the funeral procession.
