Mr. John Wesley Wooten, Jr., age 59, lovingly known by his family members and friends as “Big John” formerly of La Grange, North Carolina transitioned from labor to reward on Monday, March 12, 2018 at the UNC Lenoir Health Care Center in Kinston, North Carolina.

John was born in Lenoir County, North Carolina on July 22, 1958 to the late Mr. John Wesley Wooten, Sr. and Mrs. Mary Taylor-Wooten.

He was educated in the Lenoir County public school system.  John graduated from North Lenoir High School in the Class of 1978.

During Mr. Wooten’s working years, he served as a Certified Mechanic for the Department of Transportation in Kinston, North Carolina.

Funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, March 17, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. in the Rouse's Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 4813 Rouse Chapel Road, La Grange, North Carolina.  Pastor Charles H. Kittrell, Sr. will officiate.

Interment will follow in the Saint Matthew FWB Church Cemetery, 2758 Jenny Lind Road, La Grange, North Carolina 28551.

Also, a public viewing will be held on Saturday, March 17, 2018, from 10:00 a.m. to 10:50 a.m. in the Rouse's Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 4813 Rouse Chapel Road, La Grange, North Carolina.

Mr. Wooten leaves to cherish his loving and precious memories to his four sisters, Annetter R. Wooten of Garner, NC, Lynne R. Wooten, Ina Rawlinson and husband, William and Sheena Jackson and husband, Samuel of LaGrange, NC; his six brothers, Johnnie Taylor of Goldsboro, NC, Cecil T. Wooten of Fayetteville, NC, Ricky A. Wooten, Aray L. Wooten, and Herman Dawson and wife, Marietta of Baltimore, Maryland, and Tyris A. Wooten of LaGrange, NC; his three aunts, Thelma  White and husband, Lamar of Brooklyn, NY, Annie Ruth Philpot of Washington, DC and Swannie Waters of LaGrange, NC; his two uncles, McKinley Wooten and his wife, Lois who was a “father’s figure” from 1979 (at the time of his father’s death) until his departure of Kinston, NC, Edward Wooten and his wife, Louvenia of LaGrange, NC; his five great aunts,  Jannie Gardner and Lossie Wilson of Goldsboro NC, Geraldine Ransom of Albuster, Alabama, Nora Jackson of Newark, NJ, and Bemell Herring of Greensboro, NC; his great uncle, Green Thomas Gardner of Newburg, NY; a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, (whom he loved, greatly) cousins, other relatives and friends.

On Saturday, March 17, 2018, the family members and friends will assemble at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Jackson of 202 Pioneer Drive, La Grange, North Carolina at 8:45 a.m. in preparation for the funeral procession.
