In profound sorrow, the Britt Funeral Home and Cremation Service join with the Sutton family to announce Mother Alma Marie Sutton of La Grange, North Carolina, age 95, has completed her earthly journey. 

She was lovingly known by her family members and friends as “Grandma” Alma and “PeaBody”. 

Mother Alma transitioned from labor to reward on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, North Carolina.  

Alma was born in Lenoir County, North Carolina on December 2, 1925 to the late Mr. Raymond Elijah Sutton and Mrs. Amy Jane Sutton.

She received her formal education at the La Grange Colored School known today as Frink High School.

During her working years, she was employed at RHA Howell’s Child Care Center as a foster grandparent.

During Mother’s Christian walk in life, she was a devoted member of Rockford Chapel Free Will Baptist Church in La Grange, North Carolina.

Mother Alma was a pride member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Beulah Chapter #322.

Mrs. Alma was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. Raymond Elijah Sutton and Mrs. Amy Jane Sutton; her son, Mr. Wardell Humphrey; her brothers, Mr. Annais Sutton and Mr. Jessie Sutton; her uncle, Mr. Earl Sutton; her granddaughter, Ms. Jaraya J. Sutton.

A public viewing will be conducted Monday, January 4, 2021 from 11:00 a.m. to 11:50 a.m. in the Britt Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, 414 East Washington Street, La Grange, North Carolina 28551. 

Also, a celebration of life service will be held Monday, January 4, 2021 at 12:00 p.m. in the Britt Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, 414 East Washington Street, La Grange, North Carolina 28551. Reverend Johnny M. Wade will officiate.

Interment will follow the celebration of life service in the Sutton Family Cemetery, 2554 Promise Land Road, La Grange, North Carolina 28551.

Mother Sutton leaves to cherish her loving and precious memories to:  her husband, Deacon Peter Sutton of the home; her sons,  Mr. Billy J. Sutton (Felicia N. Jones) of La Grange, North Carolina/Snow Hill, North Carolina and Mr. John R. Sutton of the home; her daughter, Mrs. Earlene Wytche of La Grange, North Carolina; he sister, Mrs. Irene S. Gardner of Goldsboro, North Carolina; her Grandchildren, Rogerick Wytche, Elijah Sutton, Jada Sutton, Jeremiah Sutton, Joshua William, Hashaunna McCoy, Ethan Sutton, Elanna Sutton, Ebonie Sutton and Elisha Sutton; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, friends, and adopted families.

On January 4, 2021, the family members and friends will assemble at Britt Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 414 East Washington Street, La Grange, North Carolina at 10:30 a.m. in preparation for the viewing and the celebration of life service.
