In profound sorrow, the Britt Funeral Home and Cremation Service join with the Grady, O’Guynn and Barnes families to announce Mr. Leroy “Rev. Brown” Barnes, Jr. of Durham, North Carolina, age 62, has completed his earthly journey. 

Mr. Barnes transitioned from labor to reward Sunday, July 4, 2021 at his residence in Durham, North Carolina.  He was lovingly known by his family members and friends as “Rev. Brown” and “Rev.”. 

Leroy was born in Lenoir County, North Carolina May 6, 1959 to the late Mr. Wilburt Barnes and Mrs. Burdine Grady-Barnes.

He received his education in the Lenoir County Public School System in La Grange, North Carolina.

During Mr. Barnes’ working years, he worked as a Construction Engineer for several Construction Companies.

He loved his coffee!  Also, “Rev.” enjoyed listening to the blues, family outings, family cookouts, seeing and being around his grandchildren, family members and friends.

Brother Barnes was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Wilburt Barnes and Mrs. Burdine Grady-Barnes; his sister, Ms. Frances Barnes; his two brothers, Mr. Willie Barnes and Mr. Billy Barnes.

 A public visitation will be held Sunday, July 11, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. to 10:50 a.m. in the Britt Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, 414 East Washington Street, La Grange, North Carolina 28551. 

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Sunday, July 11, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. in the Britt Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, 414 East Washington Street, La Grange, North Carolina 28551.  Pastor Leroy Randolph, Sr. will officiate.  

Final Disposition will be held at a future date in a private service.

Brother Barnes leaves to cherish his sweet and loving memories to his daughters, Ms. Karen Burdine Barnes of Lancaster, California, Ms. Dianthe Margaret Barnes of Carson, California and Ms. Trince Barnes of Long Beach, California; his stepdaughter, Ms. Rosanna Marlene O'Guynn of Los Angeles, California; his stepson, Mr. Lamar Veron O'Guynn of Carson, California; his seven grandchildren, Precious Rosanna Bell of River Falls, Wisconsin, Jesse Lamar Williams, Jessika Kenyatta Williams, Alfonsza Leroy Page, Willaljess Cleo Page, Alinaha Ayla Ann Page and Xander King Horace Barnes all of Lancaster, California; and Tamara King of Long Beach, California; his brother, Mr. Horace Grady of La Grange, North Carolina; his three sisters, Ms. Pearl Grady, Mrs. Linda Garner and husband, Michael, all of La Grange, North Carolina, and Ms. Margaret Jean Barnes (AKA – “Ms. Doll Baby”) of Los Angeles, California; his foster sisters, Mrs. Brenda Walton, Mrs. Brenadette Robinson and Mrs. Flodetta Blount; his special cousins, Mrs. Pamela Parks and Mrs. Sharon Best; special friends, Mr. Reggie Steven, Mr. Timmy Kittrell, Mrs. Elizabeth Kittrell, Mrs. Shaunda Pride and Mr. Donnie Randolph; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relative and friends.

Sunday, July 11, 2021, the family members and friends will assemble at Britt Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 414 East Washington Street, La Grange, North Carolina at 10:30 a.m. in preparation for the family lineup and the Celebration of Life Service.
