In profound sorrow, the Britt Funeral Home and Cremation Service join with the Braxton, Speight and Waters families to announce Mr. Dwight Auguster Speight of Kinston, North Carolina, age 64, has completed his earthly journey.  Mr. Speight transitioned from labor to reward Tuesday, October 18, 2022 at his residence in Kinston, North Carolina.  He was lovingly known by his family members and friends as “Nuggie”. 

He was born in Pitt County, North Carolina, November 6, 1957, to the late Mr. Melvin Braxton and the living Mrs. Sue Speight-Waters.

He was educated in the Greene and Lenoir Counties Public School Systems.  Dwight attended and graduated from North Lenoir High School in the Class of 1976.

After high school, Mr. Speight served his country by enlisting into the United States Army.

After his Army tour and his transition back into civilian life, Mr. Speight loved working on and repairing automobile engines and other small engines. 

As a son, brother and uncle, Mr. Dwight loved his family members and friends.

Brother Dwight was preceded in death by his father, Mr. Melvin Braxton; his grandfather, Mr. Walter Speight and wife, Mrs. Ruth Speight; his great uncles, Mr. John Thomas Speight, Mr. Jesse Lee Speight, Mr. Paul Speight and Mr. William Henry Speight; his uncles, Mr. Walter Speight and wife, Mrs. Vangeline Speight, Mr. Reginald Speight and Mr. Benjamin Baker.

A public visitation will be held Saturday, October 22, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. to 10:50 a.m. in the Britt Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, 414 East Washington Street, La Grange, North Carolina 28551. 

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, October 22, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. in the Britt Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, 414 East Washington Street, La Grange, North Carolina 28551.   Reverend William Waters will officiate. 

Interment will follow the Celebration of Life Service in the Fairview Memorial Park Cemetery, 295 West King Street, La Grange, North Carolina 28551.

Brother Dwight leaves to cherish his loving and precious memories to his loving mother, Mrs. Sue Speight-Waters and husband, Mr. John H. Waters of La Grange, North Carolina; his brothers, Mr. Jerry L. Waters and wife, Mrs. Valerie Waters of Kinston, North Carolina and Mr. John Eric Waters and wife, Mrs. Tomekia Waters of Goldsboro, North Carolina; his nieces, Ms. Jasmine Waters of Kinston, North Carolina, Ms. Jaiden Waters and Ms. Taylor Waters both of Goldsboro, North Carolina; his great aunts, Mrs. Mattie S. Cressey of Greensboro, North Carolina and Mrs. Ernestine Speight of Winterville, North Carolina; his aunts, Mrs. Diane Baker and husband, Mr. Melvin Baker of Greenville, North Carolina, Mrs. Sylvia Horne and her husband, Mr. Calvin Horne of Winterville, North Carolina, Mrs. Gwendolyn Mothersill of Lakeland, Florida, Mrs. Vicki Prayer of Snow Hill, North Carolina, Mrs. Ernestine Braxton and husband, Mr. Griffin Braxton of Snow Hill, North Carolina, Mrs. Gladys Baker of Kinston, North Carolina and Mrs. Bonnie Baker of Shine, North Carolina; his uncle, Mr. Wayne Speight of Snow Hill, North Carolina; his special friend, Mr. Lonnie Gray of Graingers, North Carolina.

Saturday, October 22, 2022, the family members and friends will assemble at Britt Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 414 East Washington Street, La Grange, North Carolina at 10:20 a.m. in preparation for the family lineup and the Celebration of Life Service.
