In profound sorrow, the Britt Funeral Home and Cremation Service join with the Williams, Burnside, Bennetts, Shaw and Walker families to announce Mother Edna Shaw-Walker, age 91, of La Grange, North Carolina, has completed her earthly journey.
She was lovingly known by her family members and friends as “Mother Walker” and “Auntie”.
Mother Walker transitioned from labor to reward March 14, 2021 at UNC Lenoir Health Care Center in Kinston, North Carolina.
Mother Walker was born in Lenoir County, North Carolina March 27, 1929 to the late Mr. Leander Wooten and Mrs. Mable Shaw-Wooten.
She received some of her education in the Lenoir County Public School System.
During her younger years, Mother Walker was a member of Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church in La Grange, North Carolina.
During her working years, she worked with the New York Department of Social Services as an administrator.
Mother Walker retired after many years of dedicated service to the New York Department of Social Service.
Mother Walker was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. Leander Wooten and Mrs. Mable Shaw-Wooten; her husband, Mr. James Walker; her brother, Mr. Eugene Shaw and her niece, Ms. Rita Shaw.
A public viewing will be conducted Saturday, March 20, 2021 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Britt Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, 414 East Washington Street, La Grange, North Carolina 28551.
A graveside Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, March 20, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. in the Fairview Memorial Park Cemetery, 295 West James Street, La Grange, North Carolina 28551. Reverend, Dr. Michael A. Johnson will officiate.
Interment will follow the Celebration of Life Service in the Fairview Memorial Park Cemetery, 295 West James Street, La Grange, North Carolina 28551.
Mother Walker leaves to cherish her loving and precious memories to her nieces, Mrs. Janet D. Shaw Williams and husband, Turner of Brooklyn, New York, Mrs. Kathy Shaw Burnside and husband, James, (deceased) of Burlington, North Carolina and Ms. Judith Shaw of New York, New York; her nephew, Mr. Eugene Allen Shaw and wife, Marcia of Riverdale, New York; a host of great-great-great nieces and nephews other relatives, friends and church members.
The family would like to give special thanks to Michael and LaTasha Carraway, Tina Stanford, Doreatha Branch, Antionette Williams, Betty Morgan, William Roberson Williams, Mary Isler, and Melody Johnson. You were always there as special friends and helped when needed.
Saturday, March 20, 2021, the family members and friends will assemble at Britt Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 414 East Washington Street, La Grange, North Carolina at 12:45 p.m. in preparation for the viewing and the funeral procession to the cemetery.
