In profound sorrow, the Britt Funeral Home and Cremation Service join with the Morgan Family to announce that Mrs. Mary Whitfield Morgan of La Grange, North Carolina, at age 77, has completed her earthly journey. 

She was lovingly known by her family members and friends as “Pig.”

Mrs. Morgan transitioned from labor to reward on Thursday, November 1, 2018 at the UNC Lenoir Health Care Center in Kinston, North Carolina.

She was born in Greene County, North Carolina on September 13, 1941 to the late Mr. Lonnell Whitfield and Mrs. Lula Pridgen Whitfield.

Mary received her education in the Greene County public school system.

In her younger years, Mary joined St. Mary Free Will Baptist Church in La Grange, North Carolina.  Later in life, she moved her membership to Living Hope Church Ministries in Kinston, North Carolina.

During Mary’s working years, she was employed with Howell’s Child Care Center in La Grange, North Carolina where she served as a Health Care Technician for twelve years.

Mrs. Morgan was preceded in death by her two sisters, Dorothy Exum and Cleo Farmer; her four brothers;  Earl Wallace Best, Walter, Herman and Johnny Milton.

A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, November 6, 2018, at 1:00 p.m. at the Living Hope Church Ministries, 2217 Daly Waldrop Road, Kinston, North Carolina.  Bishop James I. Lewis, Sr. will officiate.

Interment will follow the celebration of life service in the Fairview Memorial Park Cemetery, 295 West James Street, La Grange, North Carolina.

Also, a public viewing will be held on Monday, November 5, 2018 from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the Britt Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, 414 East Washington Street, La Grange, North Carolina.

Mrs. Morgan leaves a legacy of love and memories to her husband, Deacon Leamon Morgan of the home; her daughters, Irish Manuel of La Grange, North Carolina, CoPastor Janice Lewis and husband (Bishop James) of Goldsboro, North Carolina and Teresa Morgan of La Grange, North Carolina; her son, Gary Morgan of La Grange, North Carolina; a nephew she reared, Percy Lee Pridgen of Elizabeth, NJ;  her sister, Linda Darden and husband, (Bishop Horace) of Snow Hill, North Carolina; her brother, Lonnie Whitfield and wife, (Dorothy) of Jason, North Carolina; her sisters-in-law, Mary Morris of Snow Hill, North Carolina, Annie Ruth Garner of Kinston, North Carolina and Delphine Morgan of La Grange, North Carolina;  eight grandchildren, James, Sharese, Shannon, LaKeisha, Ron, Ray, Reggie and Ricky;  fourteen great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

On Tuesday, November 6, 2018, the family members and friends will assemble at the home of Ms. Teresa Morgan, 105 Spring Hill Street, La Grange, North Carolina at 11:30 a.m. in preparation for the funeral possession.
