Mrs. Ava Joyce (Best) Whitfield

Mrs. Ava Joyce Best Whitfield, age 68, of La Grange NC transitioned from labor to reward on Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at the Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro, NC.    She was born on November 04, 1949 to Mrs. Beulah B. Gray of La Grange, NC and to the late Mr. Robert Lee Best, Sr. 

Ava was educated in the Lenoir County Public School System.   She was a 1969 graduate of Frink High School.

She was employed for over 40 years in various positions at Howell’s Child Care Center (RHA Howell).   

Also, Sister Whitfield was a life-long member of Liberty Grove Missionary Baptist Church, La Grange, North Carolina, where she served as a choir member until her health declined.

She was a preceded in death by her husband, Thaddeus Whitfield and her brother, Robert Lee Best, Jr.

A celebration of her life will be conducted on Tuesday, March 27, 2018, at 1:00 p.m. at Liberty Grove Missionary Baptist Church,  2704 NC 903 Highway, South, La Grange, North Carolina.  Pastor Harold O. Warren will officiate.   A viewing will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 12:50 p.m., prior to the service.

Also, a public viewing will be held on Monday, March 26, 2018 from 2:00 p.m.  to 6:00 p.m. at Britt Funeral Home, 414 East Washington Street, La Grange, NC  28551.  The family will be present from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Interment will follow in the Saint Matthew Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery, 2758 Jenny Lind Road, La Grange, NC  28551. 

In addition to her mother, Mrs. Beulah Gray, Mrs. Whitfield leaves to cherish her memory to her daughter, Diane Anderson (Jerry) of Wendell, NC; two grandchildren, Jessica Anderson and Jeremy Anderson of Wendell, NC.  Also, she leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

On Tuesday, March 27, 2018, the family members and friends will assemble at 11:45 a.m. at Mrs. Whitfield’s home, 5459 Bear Creek Road, La Grange NC 28551, in preparation for the funeral procession.
